I start most of my mornings with a cup of Masala Chai, as is the custom in most Indian households. The fragrant ginger tea is strong enough to jolt me right out of sleep so it was hard to develop the habit of drinking a glass of juice or smoothie in the morning. That being said, I have definitely noticed that when I start my day with a glass of juice I feel more energized throughout the day.
It’s a breeze to make a fresh glass of juice in the morning, especially if you have a juicer. I don’t. I use a blender to whiz all my ingredients together and have it as is if I’m in the mood for a smoothie. When I prefer a glass of juice I simply strain the mix to remove the pulp and I’m left with a perfectly good glass of juice. Sure, there’s an extra step involved but it hardly takes any time.
Juices and smoothies are so versatile that you can try just about combination, depending on what you have on hand. I usually switch things around and go with a green juice or a red juice most days. This one has three excellent ingredients. Beetroot is a good source of fiber, folic acid, potassium and manganese. It is also packed with powerful antioxidants. Carrots too are a good source of antioxidants. Additionally, they also provide potassium, vitamin K and beta-carotene. The vitamin C in this juice comes from blood orange.
I love the deep, dark color of this juice and it tastes even better than it looks. It’s easy, quick and has a whole lot of benefits.
Ingredients:
1 cup Carrots
1 small beetroot
1 Blood Orange
1 inch piece of Ginger
Peel and chop carrots and beetroot into rough chunks. Peel the blood orange and chop into sections. If you are using a blender, throw in all the ingredients along with ice and a glass of water. Blend until smooth and sieve the mix to remove the pulp to get the juice. You can also keep the pulp in and drink it as a smoothie.
